Covington Advances To a 4th Place Finish at Creek
CG Motorsports-Glenpool, OK (April 17th, 2019) Matt Covington and team stayed close to home with the ASCS Sooner region this past Friday night, picking up a heat win and 4th place feature finish.
With the weather narrowing the options, Covington decided early in the week that the local ¼ mile in Kellyville, Oklahoma would be the best place to go racing.
The night started off well for Matt with a good draw and front row starting spot for the heat race. Matt took advantage and maintained the lead all the way to the checkers. Unfortunately, with the lack of passing points, Matt missed out on the redraw and was set to start 8th in the A feature.
During the feature, Covington put his efforts towards working to the front aboard his Triple X Chassis. The dry, slick surface required patience and finesse to make any passes. As the race moved on, Matt was able to slowly maneuver his way up through the field, managing to break the top-5. When the checkers flew Covington crossed in the 4th position, closing out another strong run.
“I was pleased with our results Friday night”, stated Matt. “The track had no moisture in it at all, even during the heats. We’ve really struggled with slick tracks in the past, but we were able to make setup improvements that resulted in a fast car for these conditions. It was a good night for us and we definitely had the speed to compete for the win if we had a better start position. So, I’m optimistic and think we’ll do well as the season picks up. We are going to look at the weather and play it by ear this week. We could possibly end up at Knoxville.”
