Covington Ready For I-80 After 7th Place Finish At TMS
Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (Sept 17, 2015) Matt Covington had a solid night this past Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. Matt was able to pick up a 7th place at TMS with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
After a deep draw, Covington rallied in the heat to finish 2nd from the 8th starting spot.
The heat race charge would give Covington enough passing points to make the re-draw. Matt didn’t have the best of luck at the draw table and have to line up in the 8th starting position for the feature.
In the feature Matt got a great jump on the start and found himself in the top-5 in the first few laps. Matt was able to battle inside the top-5 most of the race before moving into third by the mid race point. Running third as the race continued to click away, a handful of front running cars slipped by Covington as the track began taking rubber down low. Covington ultimately had to peel off the top and jump in line, joining the pack chasing the rubber. With a tight race car on exit, Matt brushed the wall causing him to slip back a few more spots into the 8th position. Covington did what he could to fight the tight race car due to the rubber, and salvaged a solid top-ten and 7th finishing position at the checkers.
“This past weekend was a good run for us and a very solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a very good car in the heat and also early in the feature until the track took rubber. We were just too tight and not free enough to roll the center once the rubber came in. I hated losing those spots and was pushing too hard when I brushed the wall and it cost us a top-5. But we still need to be proud of the effort and I would just like to thank my crew and all our supporters for giving us the chance to have such a positive overall weekend. All we can do is keep plugging away and working hard and see if we can’t go to Nebraska this weekend and get us a win, or at least a solid top-5.”
