Covington Comes Home 1st And 3rd During The Weekend Double!!
After a weekend of ASCS National racing at Texas Motor Speedway, Matt and the OE&M, Covington Motorsports Team returned to the track for some ASCS Sooner action at Creek County and Caney Valley Speedway.
Matt would start off the weekend double with a win at Creek County Speedway Friday Night and then a 3rd place finish at Caney Saturday.
On Friday after a heat race win Matt would draw 7th in the redraw and have his work cut out for him for the feature.
Rolling off seventh in the night’s 25 lap A-Feature, the XXX Chassis, Wesmar powered No. 11c Matt workded is way to the front and rolled passed Dustin Morgan in slower lap traffic on lap 14. Matt stayed out of trouble the rest of the race en-route to his third Sooner Region triumph of the season. Dustin Morgan would end up second with Joe Wood Jr. taking the final step on the podium. Mike Goodman and Jonathan Beason made up the top five.
After parking it in victory lane on Friday, Matt and the team would maintenance the car Saturday morning and climb in thr rig to head to Caney Valley Speedway for a weekend double of ASCS Sooner action.
Matt would again find himself picking up the heat race win and putting himself in the redraw for the second night in a row. Matt drew a three to start the feature inside row two.
As the green flag dropped Matt would position himself for back to back victories with the car to beat. But an early mistake after making contact with an infield tire and bending the steering arm would put Matt in defensive mode. Matt would settle in and ride out the feature trying to gain a sold points night and top-5 finish. At the checkers Matt would limp his Triple X chassis home to a 3rd place finish. After the race a disappointed Matt gave his take on the weekend and race, “I really wanted to make it two for two after winning last night. We definitely had another awesome car and one capable of winning again tonight. I messed up getting down into the corner early there in the feature and hit the infield tire and bent the steering rod into the headers. From there with limited steering I had to just roll the bottom and salvage a good point’s night and finishing position. Third is not bad and we will take it and celebrate the solid weekend."
Matt and the team look to carry the momentum into the ASCS National 2-day show at Lucas Oil Speedway this weekend. After already winning the ASCS Lonestar championship and leading the Sooner region with just a few races to go, Matt is hoping for a solid National showing this weekend. If you are able to come to the races be sure and stop by the trailer and say hi or pick up your 2012 Matt Covington gear.
