Matt Covington
Matt Covington's ASCS Sooner Weekend at Creek!
Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports team would come home with a solid top-10 at the ASCS Sooner region race held at Creek County Speedway. After starting 3rd and having a little trouble with the car and a new set-up, Matt would bring the Maxim Chassis, Wesmar Racing Engines sprinter home 5th in the heat race. This would put Matt in the B-Main were he would start outside row two. Matt was able to pass a couple cars and drive up to second were he would settle in and ride out the rest of the B-Main to secure a transfer into the nights A-Main. With a new set-up and bar combination the team would try and take small steps in adjusting for the A-Main. In the feature Matt would start 20th and have his work cut out for him. Matt was able to pass a couple cars early and gain some spots before the first caution would fall. As the green flag racing resumed the track would start to severely dry out. Matt would then have to hold on and do the best he could with the track going away and the set-up not being as tight as needed for these conditions. Matt would avoid a few wrecks and pass a couple more cars to be able to come home 10th and end the night with a solid top-ten run. The set-up would prove to be a step in the right direction for the Covington Motorsports short track races, but Matt and the crew would realize that they would have to be more aggressive with it next time around.
All in all it was a good night for the Covington Motorsports team. Up next is the 19th Annual Arnold Motor Supply Knoxville 360 Nationals. Hopefully the team will be able to prepare a fast race car and be able to have a solid run at this years nationals. After the nationals Matt will continue with the ASCS Sooner region and filling in other races when time permits. Matt is still sitting 2nd in ASCS Sooner points and hopes to close that gap in the last few races this year. Stay in tune with Matt through the team website, www.mattcovington95.com and a very special thanks goes out to T&L Foundry, C.G.
